What We Do
SLCDAW, we are dedicated to addressing the maternal and child health needs of Sierra Leone. We strive to provide essential water resources and promote sanitation and hygiene practices to improve the overall well-being of families in the our community.

Maternal & Child Health
Sierra Leone faces a critical challenge with one of the highest maternal mortality ratios in the world, where 443 mothers die for every 100,000 live births. An estimated 105 children die before they turn five according to the World Health Organization. These alarming statistics highlight the urgent need for action. In our own small way, we are committed to supporting government in improving maternal and child health, striving to make a positive impact in our community. Together, we can create a healthier future for mothers and their children.

Water, Sanitation & Hygiene
At SLCDAW, we recognize the urgent need for improved sanitation and hygiene in Sierra Leone. With nearly half of the population lacking access to basic sanitation and 70 percent without hygiene facilities, we are committed to making a difference. Our mission is to implement solutions that enhance sanitation and promote hygiene practices, ensuring a healthier future for all Sierra Leoneans.
We strive to provide clean water and toilet facilities to vulnerable population. We mobilize resources to either renovate or construct new wells in communities that lack clean water facilities. We rely on our membership to work with residents to identify vulnerable communities where these structures can be built.
Together, we can create a cleaner, safer environment for our communities.

Advocacy for Affordable Medical & healthcare Services
We are mindful of the fact that some members of our community in Washington State have low incomes and struggle to access quality healthcare. We aspire to mobilize resources and advocate for our members to access quality healthcare services. We aim to partner with other governments, businesses, philanthropists, and other non-profit organizations to support our community. We also mobilize resources (financial, and “in-kind” donations) to provide medical supplies to health facilities in vulnerable communities in Sierra Leone.
Community Empowerment
Education and skills development is at the heart of our community. At SLCDAW, we aspire to provide support to our community through advocacy, and resource mobilization to support education and skills-building among Sierra Leoneans. We encourage community members to choose school over crime to maximize their potential. We hold annual events to recognize the achievements of our community members to motivate others to follow in their footsteps.
We prioritize the welfare, safety, and empowerment of our women, youths, and children. We endeavor to provide support by working with partners to provide affordable housing, healthy food and nutrition, and tackle other challenges for our members.

Environmental Health and Safety
The Sierra Leone Community Development Association in Washington State recognizes the significant impact that the environment has on the population as a whole. Therefore, we aim to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in Washington State to introduce and promote best environmental practices. Our initiatives will focus on supporting Washington State's Climate Change Resilience Strategy by raising awareness in our community about greenhouse gas emissions, wildfire, drought, water supply impacts, flood risks, and the impacts of ocean acidification (OA).
Join us in making a difference and bringing hope to the people of Sierra Leone. Together, we can create positive change and uplift communities in need. Your support can help transform lives and inspire a brighter future for all. Let's work hand in hand to make hope a reality!
